SWIM CORRIDOR UPDATE The realignment of the swimming corridor buoys was completed on July 7. Here are the changes:
O'Brien
Swimmers will now enter the water at the right hand side of the beach, as you are facing the water.
Buoy #1 has been moved 50 metres further out so that it is now 400 metres from shore. It will not be visible until you are about 50 metres out from shore. When the smaller buoys are available from the supplier, they will be installed at the 200 metre point, which will help with sighting.
Buoy #2 is now 400 metres from the first buoy. The plan is to install a smaller buoy in the "Wilson house" bay, 400 metres from both the first and second buoys, to create a 1200 metre triangle and a 2K loop back to the beach.
Buoy #3 is now 400 metres from the second buoy. The plan is to install a small buoy 400 metres from the third buoy, into Hope Bay along the shore, to create another triangle. This one will be 1,675 metres.
Buoy #4 has been moved towards trail #36 and closer to the boathouse in Hope Bay. The distance from buoy #3 is 675 metres. Sighting from the third buoy to this one may be a little more challenging than the others. The distance from buoy #4 to O'Brien beach is 1,850 metres, so the round trip is 3,640m's if you swim from buoy to buoy. Once the small intermediate buoys are in place, you will be able to make a swim distance of 4,250 metres.
Please note that these distances are approximate.
Blanchet
Buoy #1 has been moved closer to the beach. It is now 150 metres from shore. This was done to help establish a better identification of the swim corridor. The NCC has observed too many swimmers outside the corridor, perhaps because it wasn't clear where it started. This change will also make the swim corridor more obvious to certain operators of motor boats at that end of the lake.
